Paul Murrys 1930s Pin Ups
Like Floyd Gottfredon, Paul Murry is probably most famous for all the Mickey Mouse comics he drew for Western and Dell Comics in the 1940s. But in the beginning of his career, Murry worked at Disneys animation studio as Freddy Moores assistant. Beside redesigning Mickey, as first shown in the 1940s feature Fantasia, Moore was also quite known for his typical portrayal of girls, drawing pin ups and nudes.
Well, it seems Murry learned more from Fred than just drawing Mickey, as you can see from the Pin ups I post here, all drawn by Paul Murry in the 1930s. I think especially the first two resemble a typical Moore girl, dont you think? Check for your self below!

Vince Dorse wins Reuben Award for Best Online Comic
Last night, the National Cartoonists Society (NCS) presented the 67th annual Reubens awards at the Omni William Penn hotel in Pittsburgh. After the NCS had added the category Best Online Comic Strip in 2011, this year the society had divided the Award for webcomics further into two different categories. It was Vince Dorse that had the honor of taking home the first Reuben Award for Best On-Line Comics Long Form last night for his brilliant webcomic Untold Tales of Bigfoot. Graham Harrop won the Award in the category On-Line Comics Short Form for Ten Cats.

Also nominated in the category webcomics long-form were Meredith Gran for Octopus Pie and Pat Lewis for Muscles Diablo in Where Terror Lurks. In the category short-form Jonathan Lemmon was nominated for Rabbits against Magic and Michael MacParlane for Mac. In all, there were 46 divisional award nominees in fifteen categories, along with three previously announced artists that were nominated for the Cartoonist of the Year award (Brian Crane, Rick Kirkman and Stephan Pastis). The NCS was founded on March 1, 1946 as The Cartoonists Society with Rube Goldberg as first president (hence the Reubens) and Milton Caniff as treasurer. The first Awards of the society were named the Billy DeBeck Memorial Award aka the Barneys (after Barney Google, DeBecks popular comic character).
Comic legends Alex Raymond, Milton Caniff, Al Capp and Chic Young were among the first recipients between 1946 and 1953. Since 1954 the award was named the Reuben Awards.

Jak and Daxter in HD
Its exactly ten years ago that the first Jak and Daxter game came out, and if you like Uncharted and are looking out for Naughty Dogs The Last Of Us you will definately like this: Next month Naughty Dogs Jak and Daxter trilogy will be released in HD on Blu-ray for the PS3. The three games they made previously before entering the Uncharted frachise were my personal favorites on the PS2 for years and if youve never played them you must definately get this one.The Precursor Legacy and its two sequels were fighting for attention along with Insomniacs Ratchet & Clank franchise, which had really similar gameplay but was even a bit more sci-fi. (Naughty Dog and Insomniac even shared the same building at the time). Although the graphics may seem somewhat outdated today, the game play will definately make up for that. the three games have been completely remastered in HD and include trophys. If you like action, strange fantasy creatures and funny gags mixed with some mind boggling puzzles this one is certainly for you. Release date: Februari 24.

Star Wars Clone Wars season 5 premieres tomorrow
While George Lucas claims hes retired and wants to spend his days shooting experimental films nobody will ever want to see, we get to see what happens next with our favorite science fiction characters, as The Clone Wars returns to the small screen for another season of action packed fun.
After Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexters Lab, Samurai Jack) came up with his 2D animated series of Star Wars in 2003, following the exploits of Lucas main characters from the prequel trilogy, The Clone Wars was greenlighted for further endeavorment. Showing us more of what really took place between SW II Attack of the Clones (Anakin-good-guy fights for the Republic) and SW III Revenge of the Sith (Bad Anakin suits up to become Darth Vader), a CG animated feature of The Clone Wars was released in 2008, followed by the first 22 episodes of season one, that aired on Cartoon Network.

Tomorrow, the first episode of season 5 will premiere on the CN. Beside the CG animated series, other plans are still in the making. So far, 50 scripts have been written for an expensive all out live action TV series of Star Wars, as proposed by Lucas a few years ago. Latest reports say the production of this continuing saga have been put on hold for at least several years as of now, giving room for an increase of technical developments according to Lucas, meaning that CG and VFX production costs may have dropped drastically by then. (Production of the series would cost at least 50 Million per episode, according to Lucas, if it would be made today).
Rick McCallum, producer of the upcoming series (which supposedly has been given the working title Star Wars: Underworld) says it will be about the republics growing corruption and downfall, taking place between episode III and IV (A New Hope) In a recent interview he said the main story showed quite some similarities with current economic events and joked that it centers on keyfigures not unlike the people on Wallstreet, who are basically running the United States now. McCallum is positive the new series will actually happen, although it may take some more years, adding jokingly If were all still alive by then. In the meantime, lets enjoy the action packed new episodes the CN has in store for us this season and see what plots will unfold this time around.

George Maestri goes back to basics
Animation Guru George Maestri, who worked as a producer and writer on popular animated shows such as South Park and Rockos Modern Life again found some time to share his insights and know-how on creating 3D graphics, working with the latest version of the Autodesks flagship animation software Maya 2013. As a part-time instructor for the popular online video Training site Lynda.com, George created a multipart Essentials series, going back to the basics and explaining everything about Maya, from getting to know the UI to creating textures and materials and exploring all the animation tools.
So far five courses of this new and up to date series have been created and uploaded at the site, so if youre ready to start learning something about 3D graphics using Maya 2013, this might be the right place for you to begin. The courses have 20 to 30 different chapters each, taking up about 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours per course at a regular pace, while project files are available for you to use, so you can follow along with the videos. The fifth part of his essentials series (explaining everything on the animation tools) was just released yesterday. Make sure to keep your eye on this one, as George will be adding plenty of material soon.
